The Metro
Nov. 17, 2000
w/ Brain Rakes, Organic, & Marvelkind

I guess this whole big mess started when there was a fire at my school. No joke, a fire. The place was EN FUEGO. It was small & in the kitchen, but it also happened to be on a Friday afternoon about 45 seconds before scheduled dismissal & while it was snowing. Waiting for the firetruck was really uh, unfun. So, we were on the road a lot later than we had originally planned. In the Crack Van was me, Tim (driving), Byron, Phil, and Tom's cousin Matt. It was a mildly interesting drive there. We were blasting NIN and being the only girl in the car, I just sort of sat there absorbing several hundred blowjob references. We got to the Metro late. Doors opened at 6 and we got in shortly after 7:30. It doesn't matter, though, because all we missed was the first band and about all of 2 songs of the second (Organic).

We saw Katie in the parking lot as soon as we stepped out of the car. We chatted for a minute, then I decided I was freezing my ass off and had to get inside. We went & found Tim's brother Aaron and his girlfriend, who was REALLY nice! Marvelkind went on as the 3rd act. I loved them..I thought they seemed really passionate about what they were doing. We went upstairs and waited for Kill Hannah. I spent most of the night trying to identify if a dark-haired guy who was staring at me while lurking in the shadow of the balcony was actually Jameson from Plastic Princess. (It was..we met up later.)

Finally, the boys took the stage. I actually remember most if not all of the songs this time: not in this order though... ''American Jetset", "Sick Boy", "Don't Die Wondering", "Nerve Gas", "Crybaby" "Welcome to Chicago Motherfucker" "New Heart for Christmas", "I Wanna Be a Kennedy", one weird one I don't know the title of, and "Stunt Pilots". Very impressive. Here's what they were wearing, not that it really matters.....

Greg: Blue turtleneck sweater (hmm...) with orange armband things, spiked hair.
Garett: White silk shirt, hair down
Mat: Orange arm bands, "Hawaii" shirt, hair in pigtails
Dan: White collared shirt and loose-fitting dark tie
Jon: Something mostly black, very puffed-out glam hair a.k.a. the Jiffypop look.

Some announcer guy referred to Mat as "The Fashion Bitch" heh heh. After the show, the 5 of us wandered back into the lobby. Byron bought the Chicago mofo shirt (sick of typing..can you tell?). Tim waited for his brother to come out so that he could get faster driving directions home. Byron, Matt, and Phil went to go heat the car (wimps can't handle a little Chicago cold..hehe). Tim sorta disappeared for awhile. I went outside and found the band members surrounded by bandskanks and oddly enough, many small children (???). This girl couldn't have been more than 10 & had braces. She was 4'10" at the absolute most and was jabbering on about how she'd waited 3 hours in that horrible freeze with her friends (also short and young) to see KH. Very unusual. Maybe Cobain's resurrection was booked for the afterparty or something. I went over to Mat and I'm fairly sure that he remembered me considering the fact that he punched me in the shoulder (Needless Kill Hannah beating #3), a lot harder than Greg had at the last show. I think they have it out for me. Remembering the letter I was hiding behind, I said "Sorry, I only have a letter this time" & handed it over. I told him about how I'd handed out all of those street team pass things. He rambled off a lovely string of excited obscenities like at the other show. Mat has Tourette's. *nods*. We talked for another few minutes about the last Pumpkins shows and that sort of thing. So I said bye to Katie, met up with Jameson, and was on my merry little way. huh-fuckin-zah.
