Rock The Fox
Kane County Fairgrounds
August 19, 2000
This is going to be
a difficult review! So much happened, I know I'm going to forget stuff. Well, we were the first 3 people there. It was me,
Tim, & Byron. We were told that cameras were allowed (& thank god for that).
The 3 of us slipped in & went almost immediately to find some food. We sat on
the bleachers for hours listening to mediocre punk bands. Maybe that's
unfair. I was just tired & pissed off at having to wait 11 hours for Kill
Hannah.
We got bored. We decided to harrass the Giant Bee [Old Country Buffet
mascot="OC Bee"--get it? it was a giant bee suit that everyone had fun
abusing. I got an excellent picture of Tim flicking it off as it was walking
away]. But you can only assault mascots for so long. Nothing else happened
until about 4 when we went to the grocery store to get some whipped cream,
and then onto the Bell of Tacos (just TRY to nail me for copyright
infringement). Mmm...whipped cream tacos. Breakfast of champions. When we got
back, it was already starting to get dark out. The crowd grew but most people
left after Lucky Boy's Confusion. When there were about 2 bands left until
KH, I was standing towards the back of the crowd. We were kind of bored &
tired. We were standing there talking & all of a sudden, Byron said, "Hey...I
see a LOT of purple hair!" I turned around and looked behind 2 or 3
chain-link fences & there was Katie. [Kelly's note: Katie= "Purple-Haired
Katie", the queen of the KH scene pretty much. We started talking online in
March 2000 and she got me started on the band. we had agreed to meet up for
the first time at the concert.] We met up and started talking...umm....neat.
So finally, at about 10:15, KH came on stage to put their equipment on
stage & set up. They launched into the show. All I can really remember is
that "Hyperactive" was first. A couple others I remember were "Crybaby", "I
Wanna Be a Kennedy", "Sick Boy", and "Nerve Gas" (I think). Mat had his "Cat
Killer" shirt, Greg had the blue turtleneck (shock), Dan had a white shirt,
and I'm unsure about the other 2. My pictures turned out a little blurry.
This was the first show of everyone's favorite silent-type, Jon, who did not
disappoint. After the show, I stuck around. Mat came out & just sat on the
edge of the stage. He sold t-shirts & cds. Tim got both albums, Byron got
one, & I got a shirt. Mat wanted to do one of those weird little handshake
signal-things but I was very tired and listening to something Tim was saying,
so I kinda just let my hand go limp. eh. 3 cheers for exhaustion. Mat knew Tim's brother. They started talking about Tim's brother's band Marvelkind & Mat knew the members by name. It was very interesting...so I
took my book & had them sign it.
what they wrote:
"KANE COUNTY LOVE AFFAIR. --MAT D."
"To Kelly, The Kill Hannah yearbook. Class of 2000. What do you think of the
new lineup?-- G. Corner".
"THANKS FOR COMING OUT TO THE FAIR....---Jon".
"Hey Kelly, Great jacket. Thanks for showing up. Garrett Hammond."
"Thank you for coming out and having a page in your diary. Dan W."
